Circusful

Formally known as Belfast Community Circus School

The mission statement of the Belfast Community Circus commits to:

“Transform lives and communities through the power of circus arts and street theatre “

Out and about… As well as offering Itty Bitty and Youth Circus, BCCS’s outreach team takes circus to some of the most disadvantaged communities right across Northern Ireland. If you know of a group we should be working with please email Outreach@BelfastCircus.org. We also operate as a training school for professional teachers and performers of circus arts and street theatre. We do work in partnership with a wide range of other organisations too. If you are interested in knowing more, send Reception@BelfastCircus.org an email and we would be pleased to talk to you.

Premiere Circus is a performance agency which aims to provide the best in circus and street theatre performance within island of Ireland and beyond – providing work for top level professional artists whilst creating revenue to invest back into Belfast Community Circus School.

Circus Experience provides team building, creative workshops and team away day packages to organisations right across Northern Ireland. With a focus on improving communication, building trust, overcoming obstacles, and enhancing team-working capabilities there is no better way of ensuring your team is set up for success. Our circus skills workshops provide a shared experience of learning something new, help participants to re-examine what they are capable of, build resilience, and encourage staff to support and motivate each other.

Festival of Fools, founded in 2004 by Will Chamberlain, is an internationally recognised street theatre and circus arts festival. It takes place in Belfast during the first weekend in May. It is the largest comedy and street theatre festival on the island of Ireland, with around 100 performances taking place across Belfast City Centre and the Cathedral Quarter.

To this end, the Belfast Community Circus acts not only as a vehicle for bringing about personal development through teaching children and young people in some of the most disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland, but also as a training school for professional teachers and performers of circus arts. In addition, the Circus acts as a promoter for performers, in the form of Premiere Circus, and as a venue to host visiting and indigenous circus productions.

As well as this, Belfast Community Circus boasts a cross community Youth Circus which has been run continuously throughout the troubled times of the past twenty three years, providing training and performance opportunities for young people aged 8-18 irrespective of their backgrounds. Since 1999, the School has been resident in purpose built circus premises in a neutral area right in the heart of the city of Belfast. If you are ever in the neighbourhood, please call in for a guided tour and a chat.
